First day and all went well
I have to admit, I was a little nervous about how we would mesh all the different subjects, different kids, etc. but it actually went pretty smoothly - all things considered.
The biggest issue was with Danielle wanting to be a total pain in the butt. I have no problem with her coloring quietly at the table, playing in her room, watching a video in her big sisters' room or listening to what we're doing. But demanding attention and acting like a spoiled brat just isn't gonna fly here! So there are some habits we need to get into here.
I really think I made good choices all the way around.
We started with our Bible lesson and a devotional. The text is very simple and straightforward. It was stuff that my older girls already know, but a little reminder never hurt. The devotional was fun too - very homeschool oriented, which was nice. Then we read a few verses from the NIrV Bible and started our history.
History was easy today - a few pages in our "Peoples of the World' book. We learned about the differences between countries. The kids thought it was really cool when I pulled out a dish full of foreign currency!
After that, we cuddled up on the couch and I read a couple chapters of "Charlotte's Web". I sent Morgan to her room with a book (which she LOVED) and did language arts with Kailyn and Nicole. This was the part I was most nervous about since all three girls are on very different levels. I had Kailyn read her word list and then a simple story. Nicole and I praised her for her hard work, which she loved! I actually think having Nicole as her audience was a help. I gave each girl their phonics book and they worked side by side at their respective tasks. The "Explode the Code" books (Get Ready for Nicole and Book 1 for Kailyn) were dead on with their abilities. After that, I had them tear up one of my magazines to make an "Ff" page. They actually worked REALLY well together. Usually the kids pair off with the two older and two younger, so it's nice to encourage more interaction with the two middle. While they worked on that, I assigned Morgan some spelling and vocab work from her workbooks.
I gave Nicole a break while I worked on math with the two older. Again, I'm teaching them the same material but Morgan is moving through it a little faster. Kailyn has a natural aptitude for math, so I think she'll be right at pace once it all kicks in. It looks like a GREAT program!
We still have handwriting to do, but I'll have to work that in a little later. I'm so pooped! Oh - we did science too which was basically reading some from a book about dinosaurs and doing some worksheets. But the handwriting can wait. It took longer than I expected. We need to get a better rhythm going and I think we will before long. I really need to learn to get up earlier!
Now I'm going to go set up their computer!

That's awesome!
How old are the kids? I liked it better when you had them listed
Hannah's four - if you have any tips to send my way. I don't do a lot, but we do a bit each morning and afternoon to prep her for school next year (we public school - I can't afford to NOT do daycare, and I can't do daycare and homeschooling, so I can't afford to homeschool -- did that make sense?)
Good job, mom!

Sounds like a great day overall Christine! I think it will start to flow smoother once you all find your groove.

Yeah I was surprised with how smooth it was and there were some bumps in the road.
The girls are 9, 6, 5 and 3. I'll make a new siggy.
