Hummingbirds

We want to attract hummingbirds to our yard. WHat should we plant?

We got a feeder that we are putting up today..but I'm not sure of the proportions for the sugar/water mixture.

Do any of you get hummingbirds? Did you plant anything special?

We have a wild plant that sprouts up in our front garden every year. All the locals call it "hummingbird weed" but I don't know the regular name. It's a very fine, mesh like plant with little, long cup shaped flowers that are bright red. The hummingbirds love that plant!

After looking at what Jennee posted we used to have that Coral Honeysuckle in your uard and it attracted hummingbirds. I don't know of anything else though that link should help.

It often pays off to have more than one hummingbird feeder. If you don't get them right now you may have to put out several feeders to attract them. There are several places on the net to for formulas and such as feed. They are also attracted to a red/purple color.

I hope you see some this season cause they are really cool.

Nope it's not any of those. It has a very distinct leaf. I'll see if I can find it.

You can plant a variety of colorful plants that will attract them. We have native lillies, spider lillies, yucca's. I know that they like morning glorys also. We do humming bird feeders every year. One year we had 4 humming birds and you could see them fight over the feeders. I hope you attract some they are beautiful to watch.
